We have a tonne of bar soap in the bathroom that no one was using, so I decided to follow this recipe to make liquid soap with it. I prefer using liquid soap to wash my hands and shower gel in the shower anyway.
I just used two bars of soap grated into four cups of water, melted in a saucepan on a medium heat for about 20 minutes. After the soap had dissolved I let it cool, and then realised it was too thick, as you can see in the last picture.
So I added two more cups of water and melted it on the stove again. After I let that cool it was still too thick, but I couldn't be bothered to put it back on the stove, so I just mixed in a few more cups of water and poured it into bottles. It ended up making over three litres with just those two bars! I put some in the pump bottle in the bathroom, and it seems to be going pretty well so far.
If I were going to make this again, I would only use one bar of soap and maybe 8-10 cups of water. Or use Dove soap as per the recipe. Apparently Dove works best because it has moisturiser in it, so it ends up much thinner.
Have you ever tried to make liquid soap or shower gel out of bar soap?
