24

(American Apparel one piece)

Today is my Birthday! I'm 24, which I think is a much cooler age than 23. 23 just seemed so nothing, although it is a prime number, which is pretty cool.

I spent the weekend at the coast, snorkeling, dolphin-watching, and getting up at a completely inappropriate hour to watch the sunrise over the ocean. Those of you who live on left coasts should be grateful that you can just watch the sun set over the water at a time that doesn't give you jet-lag for the next 24 hours!

Tonight is just a quiet dinner followed by a life-changing caramel mud toffee cupcake.

Happy Australia Day!

(Valleygirl sequin top, Mossimo denim tie dye shorts, Wittner leopard print sandals)

Hope all my Aussie friends had a winning Australia day! I was at a friend's barbeque, listening to the hottest 100. Of course, Gotye and Kimbra's Somebody That I Used To Know was the number one song of 2011, big surprise!

Heading to the coast this weekend, hope you have great weekend too!

having a 70s moment

(thrifted polka dot halter neck)

I'm having fun working on a lot of new projects at work this week! Since we all have Thursday off for Australia day, we have to work extra hard for the rest of the week. But I'm going to the coast on the weekend, and it's my Birthday on Monday, so there's lots to look forward to! Hopefully I'll get some good photos ops at the coast, it's been pretty cloudy here recently which is so not conducive to taking photos for le blog, in my opinion. Plus I have a very special new pink one piece to share with you!

What are you guys up to this week? What are my Australian friends doing and wearing on Australia day?

black and white

(Jay Jays sheer button up, Zara shorts, Wittner leopard sandals and thrifted satchel)

Felt like slumming it for an engagement party, so shunned my usual heels and opted for comfort instead. I'm really liking the idea of comfortable chic these days!

you're my secret weapon

(Trenery silk shirt, Forever 21 khaki skirt, thrifted clutch)

After watching The Iron Lady yesterday, I was reminded of the whole "women need to dress and act like men to succeed in business" argument, but I find it pathetic that women should have to change the way they look and act in order to be respected in the workplace! Screw that! We can be hard-working and smart and carry a silver clutch too. Let's prove it ladies.

And for the record, I also think it's ridiculous that business men are expected to wear ties and jackets in Summer. Society is so cukoo sometimes.

The top 3 reasons why Zara is the bomb

(Zara denim shirt)

So Australia has gone a little crazy over Zara, since the first store landed in Sydney last year. I mean, I visited the store months after it had opened and they was still a ten metre long line to get in!

Now, a lot of my friends were a little disappointed with Dolce and GaZara (as Victoria Beckham would put it), but since I picked up a well-loved winter coat there last year I knew I had to visit the new Melbourne store while I was down for New Years.

I came out with six basic items that I know I'll get a lot of wear out of. But my raving about Zara doesn't end there, no siree. Putting the quality/price/cuteness of the clothes aside, here are my top 3 reasons to luuurve Zara:

1. They have mirrors everywhere in the store, meaning you can try on jackets and stuff without having to go to the change rooms. And everyone knows you can tell how good something is going to look just by holding it up to your body and checking out your reflection, der.

2. You are allowed to take 10 items into the change rooms! Normally it's like 5-6 and if you have more you have to leave some with the salesgirl who always manages to forget about you and lose your extra items.

3. The lighting in the change rooms is actually flattering! Strip lights all around the mirrors, not just that hideous down-lighting. YES I want to look good when I try something on and YES that makes me want to buy it. NO I don't want to look like a fat cow and I do not want to buy your clothes when I feel disgusting when I try them on. SHEESH. The percentage of stores that do not realise this continues to astound me.

Do you agree with my Zara love? Or do you think Zara is over-rated?

the lost girl

(thrifted peasant singlet, Strawberry denim shorts, Landspeed sunglasses)

This is my take on Jami Gertz's debut outfit in the utterly awesome film The Lost Boys. Now all I need is a motorbike-riding vampire boyfriend to complete the look. Because I think we all know that this was Kiefer Sutherland's finest hour. No really tenuous "24" reference intended.

pirate

(thrifted shirt and satchel, Mink Pink shorts, Landspeed sunglasses)

This relic has been lurking in the back of my closet since high school, and I have some very fond memories attatched to it. Suddenly realised I don't have to wear it only to the beach. Such a revelation.

Meanwhile I'm nearing the end of an indulgently long holiday break, in which I shopped, shopped, partied and beached. It's been just the best and I've decided I need to be in the water more often and I really need to be situated much closer to Zara...

twelve

Ringing in the New Year in Carlton Gardens, with the minimum amount of glow sticks and a polka dot Topshop skater dress. This was only actually for the picnic portion of the night, there was a whole 'nother outfit after that, with more hot pink and an extra 6 inches of height. But those photos are for another day, if and when I find any that are halfway flattering.

Happy New Year sexies!
