Santa Barbara

At long last, I have in my hands the complete collection of USA photos. I figured it would be easiest to post them in order of capture, so without further delays I present installment 1: Santa Barbara.

(thrifted jumper and ski jacket, H&M jeans (actually, I should say jeggings, I just don't want to), Target hobo gloves)

After venturing out in the arctic conditions yesterday, I found my favourite childhood pond, a dead kangeroo... and some live ones. I was pretty lucky to see the tagged one too, a park ranger family friend told us there are only two in this area of bushland.

life on the wedge

I'm in a bidding war on the last pair. Ebay will be the death of me.

blue for cold

(thrifted top, shorts and sunnies)
The wind was not kind to me when I ran out to the video store and library in these shorts. Spent the rest of the day hiding inside watching Shutter Island and a Courtney Love documentary. And it was family night, meaning my brother comes over to watch Survivor with us. Except Survivor isn't on at the moment.
Tomorrow equals productivity (meaning yoga and job hunting).

back to basics

(Rainbow tank, Forever 21 jeans, Aldo heels and thrifted blazer)

I bought my first ever nude bra today, and I just realised you can hook the straps ANYWHERE you like around the cups and back. Hello Miss Practicality. It was probably about time I got a little decency knocked into me anyway...
For those who were interested, the election has taken a turn for the crazy and it looks like neither party has secured the majority, meaning much negotiating (and hopefully hilarity) will ensue. Crazy times indeed.

I'll tell you what you already know

(thrifted top and shorts, Walgreens tights, Big W sneakers, Urban Outfitters sunnies)
Taking some time out in the bush preparing for election day... this time tomorrow we will either have a new Prime Minister or our first elected female one. Exciting stuff, even before I start thinking about the sausage sizzle...

bare legs

(thrifted jumper and shorts, DSW heels)

So, as you can see, I was serious about the disdain for Winter fashion I expressed in my last post! I love the baggy jumper look, but, thing is, I think it looks the best with bare legs. Kind of like an "I'm going for a walk on the beach at night" inspiration. Anyway, I actually wasn't too cold as I was just going to see Scott Pilgrim (who is, apparently, "trending". Yes, I just joined Twitter).

I am trying to be a little more interconnected, so please follow me on Bloglovin and Twitter so I can follow you back. In the same vain, if you are on Lookbook PLEASE invite me! Looking forward to making more web-friends...

True Blue

(Supre dress, thrifted denim shirt, Walgreens tights, Rubi boots, rings from Charlotte Russe and markets)

I really struggle to put together an outfit I'm happy with in Winter. Generally, I just (stupidly)try to adapt an outfit I would wear in Summer to make it warm enough to be bearable. This tends to disappoint though, as I just seem to be more drawn to bare legs than tights (though I DO thoroughly understand the appeal of them).

Also, I am never really at ease with my footwear options. My preference tends generally towards sandals, which are obviously out of the question. Of late I have also seemed to eschew the obligatory ballet flat, which feels a little too prim and not 'me' at all. Occasionally I will wear sneakers, which I know can be cute and undone, but don't exactly add much pop to an outfit. This whole catastrophic situation basically tempts me to wear heels a lot, even to places like the mall, where it is possibly inappropriate and definitely somewhat painful.

It is times like this that I really need to learn to see the silver lining, so let's all take a minute to give thanks to woolly beanies with pom poms, thigh high socks, red gumboots, neon ski jackets, patterned mittens, pastel rain jackets, fluffy white ear-muffs, furry hoods, fingerless knit gloves, moon boots and 90's baggy sweaters. Yay for Winter (and yay that it is, really, basically over).

foot candy

Just two of the seven (eeeek!) pairs of shoes I lugged back in my bulging suitcase. The ones on the left are Forever 21 and on the right are Aldo. Nude heels have admittedly been on my mind in recent months, and now finally I can walk around feeling truly well shod... Although, I really do need some nude wedges too.....

Central Park and Manhattan Skyline

Ok, so I just watched Alf, and Full House. Seriously.
But I digress...

Whilst my good friend and photographer extraordinaire organises the hundreds of trip photos, I have but a small teaser to share at present. This is what I look like when I'm (rather ashamedly) reading LA Candy in Central Park, and observing the sun set beyond the Manhattan skyline. In the latter I am wearing the romper I mentioned in the previous post. Someday in the not-too-distant future I am hoping it will be warm enough to romp in it once again.

safe landing

(Forever 21 jeans, thrifted jumper, glasses from some souvenier store in Vegas)
And, finally, I have touched back down on familiar soil after being thouroughly delighted and exhausted by the US. A romp through the bush was well in order to comemorate the occasion, it is only a pity that it definatley wasn't warm enough to wear my newly aquired romper. Is the difference in temperature tangible? Abso-freaking-lutely, but the beauty of Canberra is that, even when she is cold, she puts on this sunny, tooth-clenched smile, pretending that everything is summertime warm, so hot it'll melt your popsicle. Unfortunatley, it is not. But I none-the-less appreciate her gold star attempt at faking it.
