Estelle and EVANS by Mai Adams

A couple shots from a photo shoot I did for the perfectly humble yet talented Mai Adams, who just graduated from her diploma in fashion design at the CIT (Canberra Institute of Technology). Kate Luke did a killer job with the photography, and Judy Stone made us all look like windswept moody Barbies. The location is Lake George just outside of Canberra, which provided the perfect diffused lighting effects and a few too many snakes for our liking. Thank you so much to Mai, Kate and Judy, and to the unbelievably leggy models Kimberly and Emma for the adventurous and partially glamorous girls day out.

Today's inspiration: 80s (hence the rainbow paddle-pop shorts and sneaker combo. Actually, I am working on applying the same colour combo to my hair).

almost famous

I don't often do 70s inspired but there you go...
Got a bit of an unfortunate waffle-style sunburn to complement this top too.

The last couple of days have seen me running around work chasing after some kittens we borrowed for a photo shoot, and making final preparations for our staff Christmas party. It promises to be an epic occasion.

Rocking my totally work-inappropriate skirt with studs and a splash of aqua on the nails. Definitely my preferred nail colour, although any pastel will do.

I didn't think I'd ever really get into the clog trend, but these were so tall with such a nice platorm and such meaty thick black straps that I couldn't resist. I've decided I am done with heels that don't have platforms. They are lame.

c'mon make some big jumps, big jumps, you afraid to break some bones?

Feeling very lethargic after a long Sunday at a student fashion parade, I will post some pics if I ever get my hands on some :) Decided I need to do more exercise to keep my energy levels up, so I went on a rather half-hearted little meander in the local bushland. I inspired myself by putting together this Indiana Jones/Lara Croft homage of an outfit, in case that wasn't obvious enough...

lost and found

Been having a very cruisy day sleeping in, brunching with a friend and cleaning my room. There was some serious closet purging going on, and as always happens with a purge, you magically find millions of hidden items that are exactly what you're looking to wear right now, if only you actually remembered that they have been existing in your wardrobe all along. This is just a small stash of the jewelery that I have forgotten about and really need to wear more often.

I know a lot of people had a go with no-spend November, and it is possibly something I will try to do in December. I mean, obviously excluding Christmas presents. You need to remember that, when you feel like you definitely, absolutely need to set out on a shopping rampage, you can always go shopping, y'know, within your own closet...

dynamic duo

Classic Batman is the best Batman. You hay have noticed a running theme with me and cropped tops, paired with something high waisted. In my twisted mind I think this somehow makes the whole thing less, for lack of a better word, whore-ish. Yep, cropped tops and high waists together make quite the dynamic duo.

princess sparkle

After an epic week at work, today was dedicated to indulging in shopping, cookies and reading the Sunday paper. I may have to reconsider my strategy to use sweets and shopping as stress-relievers. That third pair of shoes might not have been entirely necessary. Never mind, let's just look at something sparkly and forget about my impending debt related stress. I'm sure that can be cured with shopping and cookies too...

set out to be feared, instead I grew a beard

You'll have to excuse the fact that I'm not wearing heels, this is what I wore to climb up a small mountain on the weekend, so I think I had a decent excuse. One day I will work up the courage to wear this lace cropped top without a singlet underneath. I also have a matching one in minty green which I should really debut here in the near future...

high rolling

This is what I wore last Friday when I hit the town with my get-'em girls. We went to a club where my friend works which incidentally was having one of their regular foam parties, to which I exclaimed "there is no way I am going to a foam party in these shoes!". I'd still love to go to a foam party though, I will definately make the commitment one night this Summer. After that we went to my favourite hangout, the casino, where I got up a little and then down a little. I still love the cas though.
Demure up top with high heels and hemlines is always my favourite combo.

Khaki is only really for army men and going on safari right? I've really never worn the colour much before this season, and I guess that just shows what a tragic fashion victim I am. I found this skirt in Forever21, and fell in love before I even realised that Rumi Neely wore exactly the same one here. That kind of sealed the deal, and yet I really haven't worn the thing as much as it deserves. The shirt, I'm afraid, looks very similar to the ones worn by the staff at supermarket giant Woolworths. I thought I was just being paranoid about this, but someone actually pointed it out to me tonight. Unfortunate for me, but ultra fine marketing on behalf of Woolworths...

What are you gonna do about it, huh?!

Much gratitude for all your support on my last post, I love you guys ♥

150th post-a-versary

It seems like only yesterday that I celebrated my 100th post-a-versary, perhaps because I accidentally wore a very similar outfit. Obviously I think celebrations call for belted waist-high cut-offs and cropped singlets...

Anyway, thank you to all my readers for following and commenting ♥♥♥ If no one had been reading this crap, I probably wouldn't have had the motivation to stick with blogging for over a year now. It's lead me to new jobs, new friends and a whole stack of crazy fun blogs which inspire me to no end. If you're new here please say hi to me on twitter or you can follow on bloglovin' if you like ♥♥♥

heavy metal

Sportsgirl studded handbag

I can't believe I forgot to post a picture of this baby a few weeks back when I bought it (on sale I might add). It has worked out rather perfectly for work, the gym, and bashing muggers. I am considering carrying a brick in it to make it even more of a deadly weapon.

My neutral based outfit from the other night. Layering neutrals is one of my fave things at the moment, especially when it's silky shiny ones, or fuzzy platform ones.

Had a look at townhouse at I'm hoping to move into with a couple of friends today, hopefully our application is the winner...

Those following my twitter will know that these babies arrived in my mail-box a few days back. A couple of the responses I had after wearing them to work:
"They are big. No, they are just really too big"
"They make you look like the succubus horse lady from World of Warcraft" (?!)

You can see that I've got them all dirty already, but then I find fashion so much less interesting when you have to be careful about it. This is why I can't have nice things.

Anyway, this is a bit of a preview to the outfit I wore last night to see The Social Network. Freaking amazing by the way. The movie not the outfit. Well, I guess you can judge for yourself when I post it tomorrow...

en francais

I was definitely feeling the need for mussed up hair and red lips yesterday, although the lipstick is pretty much imperceptible here. As this combo always reeks of the 90s to me, I completed the look with my regular cut-offs and white tee avec writing en Francais. Red lips also remind me of France...
The sandals are the only thing that give me away as a power female of the go-go noughties, I suppose.

Getting amped up for company paintball tomorrow, practising my camouflage and all that....
The draped jersey skirt is a new addition, and I thought it was getting close enough to Summer to crack out the cropped singlets. What are we thinking of these? Hot or not?

weekend wars

Bit of a casual weekend outfit for y'all.
I've been pretty busy this week; house-hunting, organising paintball for this weekend and keeping the fruit bowl stocked for my esteemed and increasingly ravenous colleagues. I somewhat mistakenly thought it would be a fun idea to implement a healthy breakfast program at work...

Sunday, October 24, 2010

One of the fruits of my shopping spree last weekend. I did a lot better at controlling myself this weekend. Cleaned my room, vacuumed, did the washing, cleaned the bathroom and removed my chipped nail polish (that counts as cleaning right?). I even went to yoga. I pretty much deserve a medal...

Since transitioning into a state of full-time employment, I realise how hard it is to keep blogging up during the week. Thus, I've decided it's time to start posting some office attire! Don't worry, my office outfits aren't super boring and I tend to border on the inappropriate for work, which is always more fun in my opinion. This ensemble is , of course, inspired by the best TV show of the 90s, Beverly Hills 90210. I tend to think I will only ever wear florals in a satirical sense.

A closer look at my new babies, in case you were interested ;)

chain wedges

Thrifted top, Strawberry shorts, Sportsgirl ring, Urban Outfitters sunnies, Ebayed wedges.

Finally decided on some wedges to buy online after debating it here. Actually have another beige pair on the way too. I shouldn't be allowed online, or in the mall for that matter. I bought 2 bags, 2 nail polishes and a ring today, all completely unnecessary. What are you gonna do....

nine oh

Thrifted jacket and shorts, Kmart tee and sandals, Urban Outfitters sunnies.

If green is the new black, then pastel is the new green. And, like obviously, 90s is the new 80s.

New York

30 Rock, Brooklyn, Coney Island Freak Show, 5th Avenue shopping spree, Yankee Stadium, frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, at the top of 30 Rock, cupcakes in bed, Yoko Ono's scribblings, eating out Seinfeld style, my FAVORITE store ever, getting way too excited about the new Target in Harlem, and the final supper.

That is officially it for my US photo diary. Regular outfit posts will resume in the coming days....

Fountains, sunset, the scary view from the Sears Tower, world-famous architecture, outdoor showers, outdoor art, Oprah's favourite pizza, and what will happen to your luggage if you entrust it to United Airlines.

Photos by Sam, Nina and myself.
